چکیده

This paper presents a method for evaluating the quality of X-ray computed tomography (CT) volume data for dimensional metrology. In the method entropy defined on the distribution of CT values of volume data is used as a criterion. For a local geometric feature of a specimen, concepts defined in GD&T are used as reference to define the evaluation area for entropy calculation. Some scannings with different image quality are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. The results show that the method can aid CT user to select an optimized scanning quality.

Dimensional X-ray Computed Tomography and its Evaluation Method of Measurement Capability

An X-ray computed tomography (CT) system that is capable of dimensional measurements is incleasingly propergating in our life because the realization of simultaneous nondestructive dimensional measurements for outward forms and inward forms on dense spatial points in short time duration remarkably facilitates production loop. However, the X-ray CT is still not applicable to all of industrial ob...

The Application of Voxel Size Correction in X-ray Computed Tomography for Dimensional Metrology

X-ray computed tomography (CT) is a non-destructive, radiographic scanning technique that enables the visualisation and dimensional evaluation of both internal and external features of a workpiece; it is therefore an attractive alternative for measurement tasks that prove problematic for conventional tactile and optical instruments. The data output of a CT measurement is a volume of grey value ...

Fully-Automated 3D Metrology and Defect Analysis with High-Resolution 300 kV Microfocus Computed Tomography

With industrial X-ray computed tomography (CT), even low-contrast defects in cast parts, such as cracks, pores and blowholes, can be localized and measured in three dimensions. Analysis of the defects can be performed using either multi-positional 2D cross-section planes or the 3D volume view. Additionally, 3D metrology with CT becomes more and more an effective tool for many tasks in productio...

Methodology for the evaluation of CT image quality in dimensional metrology

In the last years, x-ray computed tomography (CT) has gained more and more importance in metrology. However, computed tomography is a complex and indirect measurement procedure. Many factors contribute to the measurement result, which makes it difficult for the user to relate cause and effect. For example, the userset scan parameters significantly influence the measurement result. However, the ...

Assessment of Measurement Uncertainty Caused in the Preparation of Measurements Using Computed Tomography

− X-ray Computed Tomography (CT) is the latest innovation in manufacturing metrology as it offers several opportunities which are not possible with conventional tactile or optical measurement devices: The volumetric which is gained from a CT measurement represents – in contrast to other principles in manufacturing metrology – not only the surface but even the entire volume of the object which a...
